Commentary During Books Monday Mourning (Temperance Brennan #7)
The secrets of the dead are in her hands.
The bones of three young women are unearthed in the basement of a Montreal pizza parlor, and forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan has unsolved murder on her mind as she examines the shallowly buried remains. Coming up against a homicide cop who is convinced the dead have been entombed on the site for centuries, Tempe perseveres, even with her own relationship with Detective Andrew Ryan at a delicate turning point. In the lab, the clean, well-perserved bones offer few clues. But when Carbon 14 confirms her hunch that these were recent deaths despite the antique buttons found near the bodies, Tempe's probing must produce answers quickly to stop a killer whose grisly handiwork has seen the light of day.

Tempe Brennan is called into the basement of a Montréal pizza parlor when three skeletons have been unearthed. Although there is a cop there who is sure these are very old skeletons, Tempe is convinced otherwise, and relentlessly pursues answers. But things are not all rosy in her life--things are a bit touchy with her boyfriend-detective and a good friend of hers form Charlotte, NC has come up for a visit due to trouble in her marriage. This is a well written whodunnit/thriller that doesn'tI really liked this story of Temperance Brennan. She uncovers dead bodies in a pizza parlor and works with her friend with benefits Ryan. I'd like to see more of Ryan in these books. The series is different than Bones on tv, but I like both of them.
I'm so very, very torn about Monday Mourning. From the description, I thought it would be my favourite of the series to this point. Somehow, it manages to be as bad and contrived as the first book. Complete regression.I'm going to begin broad, then clearly mark where I transition into spoilers. The concept of this novel -- three bodies that seem deceptively old are found beneath a pizza parlour -- seems so very promising. Reichs has already established that Brennan has a soft spot for young women
3 1/2 stars. An intriguing story of three sets of bones of young women found in the basement of what is a pizza-by-the-slice place. No one knows who they are or how long they have been there. Tempe is determined to find out how they died and who they are. Will she find the answers to her questions before the killer or killers find her?
I enjoyed this, saw most of the twists coming but that's probably because I've read so many similar books in the genre, it was still a very well written story and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I have read all of Kathy Reichss offerings since her first book, Deja Dead was published in 1997. I have to ask myself why.I dont particularly like Temperance Brennan, Kathy Reichs forensic heroine. I dont like the settings of her novels, and even though I speak French, I dont like it when her characters do. Kathy Reichs has excellent story ideas and her plots are gripping. However, her characterization is weak. She seems to have decided that Tempe needs problems, and throws in a drinking
