Introduction

A Far Cry from Sunset

In the summer of 2005, three friends and I took an eight month journey across the two continents of America and Europe.
We were on a mission: – to get ten of the world’s most famous recording artists to record a tribute album to an unknown songwriter; – And that songwriter would be me.

And as we travelled we were going to make a road movie; an epic chronicle of our quest, and a testament to our friendship.
We made it and we called it, Tribute This!
The adventures we had and the people we met changed my life profoundly. Not only its present but also how I viewed its past.

Apart from our struggles with managers, publicists, security and even one or two of the artists themselves, we ran into so many people from ordinary walks of life; cab drivers, hotel porters, fans standing in line to see their heroes, who couldn’t do enough to help or encourage us on our journey.

For one long summer, we lived life so brilliantly; so full of laughter and a gathering sense of achievement that I wondered if the artists we were pursuing ever got to see life in anything like the same way.
In contrast they seemed so protected, so hidden away, so cut off from the world that, towards the end of our travels, the thought occurred to me that, at that point in time, I wouldn’t swap one year of their lives for one day of ours.
My hope is that, in reading my account of those heady days, you will understand why.

Comment On Based On Books A Far Cry from Sunset
What can I say about this book. I was an online friend of Billy. I discovered him when my local radio station at the time Bath FM played one of his songs and I managed to get in contact with him online. We had contact for 15 years and I was really sad to hear of his sudden passing last year. I watched the docufilm Tribute This! which this book is partly about where Billy and three of his very best friends go on a journey over the US and Europe tracking down 10 rock stars to make a tribute album

I'll start by being frank, (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun) this book is an extraordinarily great read. This book is in no way an ordinary rock autobiography, it presents itself and through Billy Franks' music as so much more. Read the book and go listen to some of The Faith Brothers and Billy Franks' solo work... You won't regret it.

Thoroughly entertaining. I was facinated by the actual adventure (chasing the big names) but I was far more engrossed in Billy's story of how he came to be who he is, his family & friendships and the story of the Faith Brothers and his insights into the music business world. Anyoene who has even a passing interest in the "music biz" will not be able to put this book down. 5 stars.

Billy Franks was the lead singer and songwriter for The Faith Brothers, whose two albums and six singles all made the UK chart. Billy has since released six solo albums to critical acclaim. Last summer he released a charity single in partnership with his friend, Prince Harry, to raise money for the Princes African charity Sentebale. In addition to his musical passions, Billy was recently the focus

For anyone looking for the inspiration it takes to follow your dreams, this is the book for you. This true story follows 4 friends who set out to approach celebrities about a possible tribute album to a relatively unknown musician, Billy Franks (check out his music, it's great). This book is half celebrating Billy's commitment to himself and his music and half humorous adventure. As the friends attempt to figure out the best way to track Bon Jovi's limo or approach Aaron Neville at a hotel, they

I read only introduction, but it got my attention! Have to buy this book!

An excellent read. Nothing like your usual autobiography. How has Billy kept going in the face of such adversity? Brilliant.Read about the man now go listen to his music.
