Nostalgic rating for greeting my fellow French students in the hallway with the most guttural la symphonie pastorale!!! we could muster. As I recall, its a little sordid.A very poignant, psychological look at the torment & joy of love. Beethovens Pastoral Symphony certainly is captured in Gides magnificent prose. Definitely a masterpiece of literature which I shall re-read throughout my life.
